Establish First-Ever Foundation

Situation and Goals

DeKalb Medical Foundation supports Emory Decatur Hospital, formerly DeKalb Medical, which joined Emory Healthcare in 2018. PRIDE Philanthropy helped create DeKalb’s first-ever Foundation in 1990, through launching an initial short-term fundraising initiative of $1 Million to renovate their emergency center, followed by four subsequent successful campaigns with increasingly larger financial goals.

Strategy

• Implement a Foundation designed to support a comprehensive, structured fundraising program with more clearly defined goals, needs, projects, processes, and timelines

• Identify, recruit, educate, and support a motivated group of Foundation-based community leaders to engage the medical center's widely diverse constituent population

Results

• Foundation board members effectively supporting staff in connecting with community-wide prospects to generate higher revenue each year

• In the first six months after launch, 47 physicians who had never been asked to give beyond the annual gala had each pledged individual gifts of $10,000 - $25,000
