$75 Million Campaign for Campus Expansion

Situation & Goals

Home of the Innocents, Kentucky’s only medically complex long-term care facility for children, faced a critical gap in services for young adults aging out of pediatric care. Over 30% of long-term residents had no appropriate placement options once they turned 21. With 12,000 children across Kentucky meeting the medical requirements for skilled nursing care, demand for services continues to rise. To address this, the organization launched a $75 million campus expansion to increase capacity and allow residents to remain past age 21.

Strategy

• Conduct feasibility study to set financial goal, timelines, and priorities

• Launch a campaign for the initial $25M to gain momentum and assess initial interest

• Expand the fundraising goal to meet the $75 million need

• Phase construction to allow increased capacity throughout the two-year build

• Focus on signature gifts at the 6 and 7 figure levels, provide specific strategy in this lane

• Advocate for sustained awareness and support of medically complex youth in Kentucky

Results

• $56 million raised to date toward the $75 million campaign goal as of Spring 2025

• Construction underway with full completion expected in two years

• Expanded capacity will result in 126 beds to serve medically complex children and young adults

• Project will dramatically improve outcomes for aging-out youth who otherwise face institutional displacement
